[Quran Majeed] Ayat ul Birr

#QuranMajeed #MuntakhbNisab #DuraTarjummaeQuran

Summary of #AyatulBirr

  1. #AyatulBirr i.e., reality of virtue is among the longest ayat in Quran Majeed. Like we know #AyatulKursi is also one of the longest and profund ayat, so understanding of all elements of such profund ayat mubaraka is required.

  2. #AyatulBirr is a beautiful explanation of #SurahAlAsr in terms of giving the examples of basic elements of success.

    1. Eman: mentioned 5 Emaniat i.e., having faith in Allah SWT, Day of Judgement, Angles, Divine Books and the Prophets. (Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east or the west, but [true] righteousness is [in] one who believes in Allah , the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the prophets)

    2. Aml e Saleh: mentioned 3 categories i.e., Pain for humanity, Ibadaat and Living by promises. (and gives wealth, in spite of love for it, to relatives, orphans, the needy, the traveler, those who ask [for help], and for freeing slaves; [and who] establishes prayer and gives zakah; [those who] fulfill their promise when they promise; )

    3. Tawasee-bil-Haq: havent mentioned explicity but is there in between the mentioning of aml e saleh.

    4. Tawasee-bis-sabr: mentioned 3 important and hard times of practicing sabr (and [those who] are patient in poverty and hardship and during battle. Those are the ones who have been true, and it is those who are the righteous.)

  1. Topic addressed by the Ayat is about portraying the complete picture of righteousness. Being the crown of the creature, human beings should have some scale of good and bad across which they can gauge their achievements. Our culture and society just help in getting the partial knowledge of goodness so to acquire the complete knowledge we want to ponder upon #AyatulBirr. According to #SurahAlBakara, ayat #85, “adopting partial goodness leads to insult here and fire hereafter” http://quran.com/2/85.

  2. #AyatulBirr addresses the questions like What is righteousness? What is the soul of righteousness? What leads to righteousness? What is the practical form of righteousness? What is the priority setting among different righteousness deeds? What is the peak of righteousness?

  3. In #AyatulBirr, the word birr comes from the root (baa raa raa). Words with the same root conveyed the meaning of peace and satisfaction (i.e., etminaan o sakoon).

  4. Link of Birr with Eman: This ayat mentions 5 emaniat where the three emaniat (Eman on Angles, Divine books and Prophets) are related in terms of Eman bil Risalat. So this ayat is basically addressing three emaniat Eman bil Allah SWT, Eman bil Risalat and Eman bil Yome Akhr (i.e., Day of Judgment).

  5. Wisdom behind starting the topic of righteousness with the mentioning of emaniat is that the driving force of all goodness is the eman. As Ghalib said Jaanta hun sawaab e taa’at o zuhd…prr tbiat idhr nahi aati. Psychology defines it as Pain Pleasure Principle (PPP) i.e., pain driven factors and pleasure driven factors. So pleasure driven factors works for the willingness of Allah SWT (#SurahDahr, Ayat # 8-9) and plain driven factors works with the reasoning on the day of judgment (#SurahAlaq, Ayat # 6-8, #SurahNaaziat, Ayat # 40)

  6. Relationship of righteousness with Eman-e-Salasa (3 Emaaniat) show that the soul of righteousness is eman. Eman bil Allah says that only that act is the act of goodness which aims at ensuring the will of Allah SWT. Eman bil Akhira says that only that act is the act of goodness reward of which is claimed on the day of judgment and the hadees also says the destiny of Rayakaar martyr, scholar and well-spender is fire (Saheh Muslim). Eman e Risaalat says on that act is the act of goodness which is not deviating from sunnah. Sunnat e Nabvi SAWW gives us the scale for the balanced and complete picture of goodness.
